Our School

Hempstead Elementary School is a diverse and vibrant school community serving approximately 500 students in grades K–6. We take great pride in the many cultures, languages, backgrounds, and experiences represented within our school. Together, our students, families, teachers, staff, and community partners work to create a welcoming environment that promotes lifelong learning, academic growth, and the social-emotional development of every child.

At Hempstead, collaboration is at the heart of our school community. We believe that students are most successful when schools and families work together. We encourage meaningful family involvement through parent partnerships, school and community events, ongoing home-school communication, and opportunities that connect families with the school. Our bilingual school-community liaison and partnerships with families and community organizations help ensure that all families feel welcomed, informed, and supported.

We celebrate and embrace the diversity of our school through cultural arts experiences, multicultural activities, and programs that recognize and honor the backgrounds and traditions of our students and families. Partnerships with local organizations, including our police department through programs such as Adopt-A-Cop and DARE, provide students with opportunities to develop positive relationships, learn important life skills, and build connections within the broader community.

Our staff members also work collaboratively to support student learning and growth. Grade-level common planning, professional development, and shared instructional practices allow teachers to collaborate, integrate curriculum, and develop meaningful learning experiences for students. Staff members work together to identify student strengths and needs and to develop appropriate supports and strategies. Our interdisciplinary teams, including administrators, teachers, social workers, psychologists, reading specialists, and special education staff, collaborate to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Hempstead Elementary provides comprehensive, engaging curricula designed to meet our students' diverse learning needs. We recognize that children learn in different ways and bring unique strengths, interests, and experiences to the classroom. Through differentiated instruction, small-group learning, hands-on experiences, technology integration, and targeted interventions, we strive to challenge and support every student while maintaining high expectations for achievement.

Students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, effective communicators, and independent learners. Writing, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, physical education, and technology are all important components of our educational program. Hands-on learning and real-world connections help students apply their knowledge and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Technology and digital literacy are also important parts of the Hempstead learning experience. Students use technology to communicate, collaborate, create, access information, and demonstrate their learning. Our goal is to help students become responsible and capable digital learners who can use technology effectively in an ever-changing world.

Most importantly, we believe that every child can learn and succeed. Our caring, dedicated staff work together to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to take risks, learn from challenges, celebrate their growth, and build confidence as learners.
